Wakefield schools spark debate in Spring 2019!
Wakefield primary schools were invited to take part in an inter school debating competition in March 2019. The competition was held at Wakefield County Hall in March where schools competed for the winning title.
The teams prepared arguments around the central question of “What is the most important thing that we can do to help our environment”. The schools were given their arguments in advance of the day to prepare for the big event. The competition was peer assessed on strength of argument and quality of presentation, but an independent adjudicator was also present.
The results of the competition were:
1st Place:- Sandal Castle Primary School
2nd Place:- Featherstone All Saints C of E Academy
3rd Place:- Dane Royd Junior and Infant School
Debates are fantastic ways to get children to think critically, independently and to develop their confidence in public speaking which is a critical life skill.
