Home / What Goes In Which Bin
Below is your guide to what goes in each bin:
The Council is advising people to wash, squash and take the lids off plastic bottles to aid recycling and create more space in your bin.
Most household waste will be used to
produce valuable energy, rather than being sent to landfill sites.
Collections of garden waste will be fortnightly from mid-March to mid-November (see your collection calendar for collection details in your area)
The Waste Treatment Facility at South Kirkby continues to increase recycling, reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill and help generate green sustainable energy.
All Household Waste Recycling Centres in the Wakefield district are currently open, with additional safety and social distancing measures in place.
Please only visit if you really need to and follow the on-site guidance at all times for the safety of staff and visitors.
Due to queues on site, sites have had to close earlier than the published closing time. To avoid disappointment please don’t leave it to the last hour to visit us.
Please read the following information and guidance before you visit:
The household waste recycling centres are open for essential visits only. This means only bringing waste that you can’t safely store at home.
You will need to have a valid commercial vehicle permit to gain access.
We’re expecting all sites to be very busy, with larger vehicle types taking longer to unload.
Please check the full list of vehicles that are permitted entry with a residential permit here
You should not visit a HWRC if you are unwell, as you should be following the 7-day self-isolation guidance, or if a member of your household is unwell and you should be following the 14 day stay at home guidance.
To keep all staff and visitors safe on site, please follow the safety and social distancing rules at all times:
We will monitor demand for the first few weeks of the site reopening and will identify if a booking system needs to be introduced.
We’re all working really hard to keep everyone safe on site during this challenging time. Please treat our staff with respect and kindness during your visit.
Thank you for:
Anyone not co-operating or posing a risk to themselves or others will not be allowed on site.
